2XU Compression Run

Date : 11 Apr 2010
Place : Sentosa
Timing : 1:21:10

Supposedly this is considered my virgin "competitive race" that I have taken part in. Previously, I had taken part in a charity run of 10km and an Ah Meng Zoo run of 6km. These two runs were more of some sort of fun runs where family take part in.

Back to my first race, I would say that the route at Sentosa is pretty refreshing and new. In actual fact, I should be taking in the sights and scene of the island. However, I did not have much time for that as I spent most way of my run looking at other runners. The route of the run was designed in a way that there were many U-turns, therefore you would always see other "slower" runners running in your opposite direction. Well, I was looking out for girls of course... ha

Anyway, the route was a challenging one with lots of slopes. The late start of the race did not help as half-way thru' the run, the sun is already shinning brightly, easy to make you dehydrated more easily. Although they have water-points along the route, I did have a slip of water till the ending point as I do not have the habit of drinking along the way for distance under 15km.

With regards to my timing, I was rather disappointed not to do better. I was hoping to do like 1:15. Nevertheless, I managed to finish the race strongly and gain some race experience. Hope to do better in my next race. :)

My Race Blog

I got a feeling, deep inside me, that one of these days, sooner rather than later, I will (or already have) turn this blog of mine into a race blog. Why? Basically, I lead a simple life with nothing much to share or dairy. The only interest that I have currently is training for races. Anyway, do not get me wrong, when I used the word "race", it did not meant that I am in to fight for the top spots. My current aim is to be able to complete all "races" in reasonable time. So why used the word "race"? Well, runners referred to all organised competitive runs as races. Some non-competitive runs have also been referred to races...

Of late, lots of Singaporeans have pick up running. You can see lots of joggers everywhere... and surprising, many females are into running as well, just too bad my dear wife is not one of those. The trend is really picking up and of course the major sporting brands and company are taking the opportunity to make a kill. More running shoes, more advance sporting devices, more sponsorship to races etc. One good example is Adidas. They got the so-called adination run across the island and also a run on a Sat whereby joggers enjoy a 30% discount storewide after the run! I joined the last run and inevitably make a purchase of close to a $100. Good business minded there, adidas! Am looking forward the next run to get a new pair of shoes. :p

In the next couple of weeks, I may use this blog as a channel to chart my training. See how first.. haha...

An Update

Been a while since I last updated my blog. Things have been pretty much the same for me. Same work, same boring life and well, having the same wife, of course! However, there are couple of changes to my life.

My new house. Got keys to my new house last Jun. Started renovation not long after. No, we have not engaged any interior designer, but rather we have much help from my in-laws. And thus, after spending some $30K, our new lovenest is ready on around Jan. I must say that I am very satisfied with our new house and we moved in "officially" on 13 Feb, CNY's eve. About 20 over relatives came over my new house and had steamboat dinner. Not bad right, our 4-room flat can hold 20 over people... ha.. Anyway, our new house is like our holiday resort for the time being. We will probably stay over during the weekends first and spend the rest of the weekdays over at my parents time. We will probably move in around Mar.

Another update. I am taking running more seriously now. Why? Now got kakis pushing together. Before, I was like training all on my own. Very boring. Now got friends to take part in races and runs together. Having friends to share how their training are going tends to make me want to do well too. If they are doing 1-hour run, I will want to do that 1-hour too. Like we motivates each another.

Currently, I am doing 10km to 12km per run. I am trying to do at least 3X of that distance a week which will make up around 30km per week. This distance will probably be enough training for a half-marathon we are going in May. Still, I am looking forward to increase that distance. Will probably come up with a training schedule to slowly increase my time of running and distance. At the same time, other than running, I have added swimming in my training. The swim will be twice a week, about 20 laps, during lunch time. Hope that swimming will reduce my injuries and also improve my stamina. I really need to be highly motivated to follow this run-swim schedule. I must tell myself, I CAN DO IT!

Just got a new gift as a wife from my "Born to Run". I selected the book, and my wife paid for it... keke.. Well, this book is said to be a super good read... strongly recommended for runners and non-runners as well... we'll see.....
